Open House Exclusive: Canada’s First Carbon Blur XC
According to Santa Cruz PR man Mike Ferrentino, the new frame is substantially lighter, dramatically stiffer and yet even more durable than the outgoing aluminum version. Claimed weight for a medium frame is now an impressive 1948g (4.3lb) including a RockShox Monarch 3.3 shock, down from 2359g (5.2lb) for last year’s model,

A complete bike with Shimano XTR build is  just 10.15kg (22.38lb)!  In addition to the carbon fibre main frame and rear triangle, Santa Cruz also uses the material for the upper link, both rear dropouts and even the rear disc brake tabs. Even so, Santa Cruz claims the new Blur XC rivals some of its big-travel bikes for strength – there is no rider weight limit – while the purported increases in rigidity (the company doesn’t say exactly how much but says it “blows away” the old one) should yield improvements in pedaling response and handling precision as well.

See it for yourself at RVC’s Customer Appreciation Party on February 26th!

Exclusive First Look: Rocky Mountain Altitude Carbon
The Altitude RSL model marks a huge change for Rocky Mountain in their mountain bike lineup. The new Altitude replaces the popular ETSX model and is Rocky Mountain’s first full-suspension carbon-fibre bike.

With 140mm travel front and rear, the Altitude RSL is built to ride all day long in any conditions you can throw its way. With internal cable routing and smooth transitions, the Altitude looks absolutely gorgeous. The use of carbon-fibre keeps the weight down and provides riding characteristics found only with this material. Rocky Mountain’s new “Straight Up” geometry puts your body in the perfect climbing position to maximize traction and ergonomics and the suspension design has this bike begging to be ridden hard. This bike will not hold you back on long, technical climbs and will climb as straight as an arrow with no energy-robbing front-end wander.
